Part of this job he has taken, he has to travel. Not for long periods of time, but for us any amount of time apart is a lot.
We don't spend time apart. Yes, I have the occasional girl's night out and he has his 'bro-dates' but we rarely spend nights apart. It's been almost a year since we have spent a night without the other.
With this job, we have already spent 2 nights sleeping alone. The UP side to all this (I know, how can there be one?!) is that moment when we see each other again.
He left for work on Monday, first thing in the morning and returned home this morning at 5:30. It's such an overwhelming feeling to see him and that first touch is electric. I can't imagine spending more than a few nights apart. That first kiss is like fireworks. SO consequently, I have the song Firework stuck in my head =) But only the chorus, because that's all I know haha!

What do you do to keep occupied when your sweetie is out of town??
Being apart is so hard, that was the hardest part when Ryan first left for basic...I think probably for anyone. I did anything and everything to occupy my time. I have dinner dates with friends, study/read, spend time with my family and friends, go shopping. It's hard to be apart, but when you see each other again always makes it worth it.
ReplyDeletewhen craig is out-of-town for the night, i usually try to plan a night with my sister. we have girly drinks, watch girly movies and then have a sleepover : )
ReplyDeleteMe and my husband have been together since high school. Since he was a year older than me, he went off to college first and lived four hours away. The six months before our wedding we were also four hours away. It is really hard, but gets easier. We usually emailed and wrote a lot of notes as little surprises for each other :)

Hope you've entered my challenge!
Well, I want you to know it gets easier each time, and I think it's healthy in the long run. Brandon and I have had to spend a lot of time apart during our 4 1/2 yr marriage, but it can be a good thing. His senior year we spent a total of 16 weeks apart. It's good because it helps you to be more independent and it also helps you appreciate each other more. When you have time apart you don't tend to get hung up on petty arguments as much. Now that vet school is over, I am able to travel and visit friends and family while he works and not feel guilty about it-and he joins me as much as he can. Keeping yourself busy in the beginning is the hardest part, but you'll get in a rhythm and it will all work out. Praying for y'all as you start this new chapter of life! xoxo
ReplyDeleteCongrats on his job!!!
ReplyDeleteDue to the army, we've spent more time apart than together. We've been married almost 38 months and have lived together only 17 of them. The longest stretch being almost 6 months. Communication is key. And stay busy!! Join a book club, find a workout class, volunteer, schedule dinner with the girls.
awww, what a sweet post. i totally hear ya - i hate sleeping without the husband. yay for his new job, though!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband worked a job where he was gone Mon-Thurs for an entire year. So I know exactly how you are feeling. I did a lot of reading, hit the gym and watched all the girlie TV I could stand!!
ReplyDeleteYou are right though - the reunions are the best part! Congrats on him finding a job!
So far I've lucked out and he hasn't had to travel since we've been married, but he wants a different job and if he ever gets it, there will be traveling involved :(
ReplyDeleteMine works out of town the whole week. Luckily, I have church Wednesday night, and I work a second job Thursday and Friday nights so that eats up a lot of time. Monday Tuesday I usually fill up with running errands, cleaning/laundry and watching some chick flicks that I wouldn't get to watch when Stephan IS home :P haha
ReplyDeleteI like catching up on my "secret single behavior" like painting my nails, reading magazines, watching chick flicks, etc. I need a girly night every once in awhile!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your hubby! Hooray!! My hubby is a fireman, so he is gone every other night for a week...then home for a week. I enjoy having nights to myself to read/blog/sleep, but I agree...the moment I see him after a night apart is just pure JOY!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I spent 3 years in a long distance relationship while we were dating and engaged (while I was away at school) and it's made it so much easier now that travels for work. He's out of town for about a week at a time, and it sucks not getting to fall asleep with him every night, but I've made a list of things I want to get done while he's traveling (I actually posted about it on Monday) and it's made time go by so much faster. Oh, and I have an etsy shop, so coming home from work and working on orders makes the weeks go by faster too! I completely agree that the reunions are the best part. :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats to your husband on the job!
Girl, you will find that it's a really good thing to spend that time apart. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, AND that time alone helps you to reconnect with.. well, yourself! Try and enjoy it. :)
ReplyDeletei absolutely hate it when he isn't around at night. hate it. then going to bed part ... can't stand it. during the day i keep busy, mostly with my girls .. but at night, i have to watch movies (romantic or funny) until i fall asleep. HGTV helps too! :)
ReplyDeletecongrats to hubby!!!
It's so hard to be apart. When John was working in the keys, I did a lot of random stuff to keep myself busy. I'd create little projects I had to complete, so I was productive and occupied! You just let me know if you need company when he's out of town...we can play :-) Chick-fil-A, running & ice cream?? yes please!
ReplyDeleteYay for the steady income job!!! It's too bad you have to be apart sometimes though.
